Knee pain is a very common symptom that affects people of all ages. There are many causes of knee pain but in most cases the source of pain is clear after attaining a complete medical history.
Knee pain can be grouped into three main categories:
⦁ Injuries: meniscal tears, ligament tears (ACL), fractures, bursitis, tendonitis, IT band syndrome
⦁ Arthritis: Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, septic arthritis
⦁ Post total knee replacement pain: occurs in 20% of patients and can be chronic if not treated. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6134884/ The prevalence of chronic pain after TKA is much higher than after total hip arthroplasty.
The Revive Spine and Pain team can diagnose the source of knee pain during a comprehensive history, physical examination, and imaging such as X-ray, CT Scan, ultrasound, MRI and/or lab tests.
Depending on the cause of your knee pain, you may be a good candidate for:
⦁ Physical therapy, rest, ice, NSAIDs
⦁ Steroid injection: Injections of steroids can reduce inflammation in the knee and may provide relief in some patients
⦁ Hyaluronic acid injection: a viscous fluid injected into the knee joint to help lubricate it. Relief can last as long as six months and can be repeated
⦁ PRP/Stem cell therapy contains a concentration of many growth factors that reduce inflammation, promote healing and delay development of osteoarthritis
⦁ Geniculate Nerve Radiofrequency ablation
⦁ Nerve block and peripheral nerve stimulation
⦁ Surgery: Arthroscopic, joint replacement
